Bringing Up Goliath

Over 50 reboot! Life after breast cancer.

About

Along with training a beautiful, but neurotic German Shepherd named Goliath, who sadly passed away in October, 2011, my husband and I completed two international adoptions.  I am a breast cancer survivor and thriver while trying to be a wife, mother, and all around good person. I’m surprised it’s so hard. These are things that make up a life, mine anyway. For better or worse.  I absolutely love nothing more than to sit down with a good novel and get lost in it for a few hours, but motherhood prohibits such luxury.  Someday… In the meantime, my passions include shouting the messages that mammograms are not always enough and it’s fine to live on your couch for a while, but know this, you can and will get up.

Be your own advocate.

About Me

Diagnosed 5 days before my 45 birthday with Invasive Ductal Carcinoma, Stage 1, ER/PR+, Her2-. This was 9 years after losing my mom to breast cancer, so in a way, I wasn’t surprised. A bilateral mastectomy followed by reconstruction, oophorectomy, and years of Tamoxifen & Letrozole would follow all while being a wife and mom to two young boys. My mission now is to take control of what I can. For too long, I let life happen to me. Time to have it happen FOR me. I hope you’ll come along. These are my thoughts and stories.

Let’s stay in touch!
